Resolving Conflicts Productively
"We Agree to…"

  1. Attack problems, not people.

  2. Express our feelings and needs in a non-blaming way.

  3. Take ownership for our part of the problem.

  4. Listen and seek to understand the other person's point of view before giving or defending our own.

  5. Look for needs behind the stated positions or solutions.

  6. Not rush in to solving someone else's problem; and to take time outs when needed.

  7. Encourage different points of view, controversy, and honest dialogue--and then respect those ideas.

  8. Focus on what can be done, not what can't.

  9. Solve the problem and build the relationship.

  10. Use objective criteria when making decisions.
