Peaceable Classrooms - Negotiation Power Programs

Conflicts are inevitable—in the classroom, in the hallways and on the playground and at home —and this Life Trax program offers an effective and empowering way for students to resolve their own disputes with a simple four-step negotiation process. The Peace Place (primary) and Negotiation Power (secondary) programs teach students how to use a four-step negotiation process to "talk it out" rather than "fight it out."

Teachers, parents, childcare providers and social workers are asked to teach five to eight lessons over a period of one to two months at the end of which students are ready to use the Peace Place or use their "power to negotiate." These programs are for any communities that want to set a manageable goal and have a system-wide impact.  They can be implemented successfully with other programs and complement programs such as bullying prevention, peer mediation, diversity awareness and character education. Schools and communities that have implemented these programs report a significant decrease in office referrals and "anti-social" behaviors.

Here’s What’s Included

• 4 hour training on conflict resolution education. Includes negotiation and mediation practices.
• 4 hours of classroom instruction and implementation of Peace Place.
• 4 hours provided for coaching, consultation and follow up technical support.
• Placards and "Talk it Out" posters are provided to place in negotiation corners.
• Spanish materials available by request.

Program Cost

The cost for the trainer; 8 hours of training; 4 hours of meetings & consultation; and program materials is $2,000 or will be determined by individual community needs.

Program Availability

The full-service Peace Place / Negotiation Power Program is available to schools, daycare programs, communities and parents in the seven county metropolitan Denver area. Life Trax trainers are available to schools in other parts of Colorado and the United States on a daily contract basis. A full-day group training cost $1,000 plus travel, meal, and lodging expenses.
