What is Parent Power?

Parent Power is Parents establishing an environment for their children that reiterates and reinforces productive skills and attitudes. Children learn best from role models and behavior rather than from words.

Here are some ways you can increase your parent power today!

  • Learn more about conflict with your child by doing conflict resolution lessons with them.
  • Make it clear you do not accept violence to at home, school or in the neighborhood.
  • Talk to your child, as long as their talking about troubling feelings, they are less likely to act them out.
  • Teach your child that respecting others is important.
  • Practice deep active listening by listening for facts and responding to all feeling words your child uses when discussing a conflict.
  • Practice positive discipline and reinforce the skills learned and taught to your child.

Research supports children thrive and learn best in safe, respectful environments. When there is a feeling of acceptance and belonging that fosters connection children can accomplish phenomenal things!
